Ideas Lab – 2024 Grants Awarded by Lottery

With its strategic funding line “Ideas Lab” (Ideenlabor), the University of Münster supports bold, creative projects in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. A unique feature of this program is its two-step selection process: After a content-based review, funding is allocated by lottery among the positively evaluated proposals. This approach aims to reduce unconscious bias and give unconventional, high-risk ideas a fair chance to thrive.

Today, projects were selected at random from the pool of fundable proposals – up to the limit of the available 2024 budget of €640,000. Based on the results of the draw, the Rectorate will make the final funding decisions.

The Ideas Lab is open to researchers at the University of Münster from the postdoc level onward who wish to test innovative concepts during an exploratory phase. The first cohort will launch on January 1, 2024; a second call for proposals is planned for summer 2025. The Future Lab coordinates the funding line and provides ongoing support to grantees throughout the funding period.
