A guest performance by theater2go from Vienna at the Studiobühne Münster! An encounter on a narrow, dusty road that ends in tragedy: Laios meets his son Oedipus. Until now, the focus has mostly been on what happened afterwards – that is, on the story of Oedipus. But the author Roland Schimmelpfennig turns our attention to the events leading up to this, and thus to Laios and Jocasta. How do they cope with the curse, according to which their son will kill his father and impregnate his mother? The monologue ‘Laius’ is a text that packs a punch. For the narrator is extremely unreliable. Everything remains up in the air. This offers the opportunity to do justice to the various versions of the mythical tradition. For the theatrical adaptation, this poses an enormous challenge: what do Laios and Jocasta really think, do, feel and experience? And who, in fact, is telling the story of Laios? Following the performance, there will be an in-depth discussion with the audience. theater2go in collaboration with the Studiobühne and the Chair of Prof. Dr Antonia Eder, Institute of German Studies.
