On the Perpetration of Crimes by Non-Germans during the Nazi Era
Book Presentation followed by a Panel Discussion
2 June 2026, 6:00 p.m.
The public debate surrounding the monograph by Grzegorz Rossoliński-Liebe, published in 2024 and entitled "Polish Mayors and the Holocaust: Occupation, Administration and Collaboration", shows no sign of abating. Following sharply dismissive reactions in Poland and the prevention of a book launch in Berlin by the Polish ambassador and the German Federal Foreign Office, the publication has sparked a broad discussion among German historians on the perpetration of crimes by non-Germans during the Nazi era. This evening, after an introduction by Thomas Köhler (Villa ten Hompel), the author himself (Free University of Berlin) will present his theses and then discuss them with Dr Markus Roth (Fritz Bauer Institute), whose research focuses on co-perpetration, complicity and profiteering in the shadow of the Holocaust in occupied Poland.
The event will be chaired by Prof. Dr Ricarda Vulpius (Eastern and East Central European History, University of Münster).
