Aaiún Nin, born in Luanda, Angola, in 1991, is an Angolan poet, mixed-media artist and activist. Aaiún Nin identifies as a non-binary person and lives and works in Switzerland. In Nin’s poetry collection *For Silence Is a Prison*, Nin explores themes such as racism and colonialism, queerness and vulnerability. Aaiún Nin shows how religion can serve as a form of oppression and questions the concept of home. The collection concludes with a message of self-empowerment: “We did it / We did it / We did it…” The reading will take place in German and English and will be moderated by Rita Maricocchi. Dorit Neumann will present the translation and Agnes Lampkin will read the poems in German. An event organised by the Chair of English Studies, Prof. Dr Mark U. Stein, in cooperation with the Studiobühne.
