The Cluster of Excellence 2060 “Religion and Politics. Dynamics of Tradition and Innovation” at the University of Münster, Germany, wishes to appoint a
Research Associate
(salary level TV-L E13, 65%)
within the research project A3-16 under the direction of Prof Dr Silke Hensel.
This fixed-term position is scheduled to start on 1 October 2019, and will run for three years, until 30 September 2022. According to the German collective labour agreement for public sector employees (TV-L E 13), the salary for the position starts at approximately €1566 (net) per month during the first year. The regular working hours for this 65% position amount to 25 hours and 53 minutes per week.
The Cluster is an interdisciplinary research association with a thematic focus on the dynamic power of religion as a driving force behind political and social changes. Disciplines involved include history, political science, sociology, Catholic and Protestant theology and law, Islamic studies and theology, Jewish studies, Egyptology, classical and early Christian archaeology, philosophy, philology, art history and ethnology. Standard duties:
- Participation in research project A3-16 “Political Dis-Entanglement and its effects on the role of Church and Religion in the early Mexican State-building Process”
- Active involvement in the Graduate School programme
- Participation in the platform on transcultural entanglements
Research associates are expected to pursue their own academic career (doctoral thesis) in conjunction with the duties pertaining to the position. In order to facilitate communication and collaboration within the Graduate School, applicants who are not proficient in German will be encouraged to attend German language courses.
Qualifications, knowledge and experience:
- Above-average higher education diploma in history or related disciplines
- Profound knowledge of Latin American history
- Proficiency in Spanish
- Willingness to spend longer research stays in Mexico
- Interest in global history
