The Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics. Dynamics of Tradition and Innovation” at the University of Münster, Germany, wishes to appoint a

(salary level TV-L E13, 65%)

within the research project “Religion as a Resource in European and International Climate Gov-ernance” under the direction of Prof Doris Fuchs.

This fixed-term, three-year position is scheduled to start on 1 September 2019 and will end on 31 August 2022. According to the German collective labour agreement for public sector employees (TV-L E 13), the salary for the position starts at approximately €1566 (net) per month during the first year. The regular working hours for this position (65%) amount to 25 hours and 535 minutes per week.

The Cluster is an interdisciplinary research association with a thematic focus on the dynamic power of religion as a driving force behind political and social changes. Disciplines involved include history, political science, sociology, Catholic and Protestant theology and law, Islamic studies and theology, Jewish studies, Egyptology, archaeology, philosophy, philology, art his-tory and ethnology. Standard duties:

  • Participation in research project B3-31 “Religion as a Resource in European and Interna-tional Climate Governance”
  • Active involvement on the team of the Chair in International Relations and Sustainable Development in terms of general research tasks, teaching and consulting
  • Active involvement in the general research activities of the Cluster

Research associateistants are expected to pursue their own academic career (doctoral thesis) in conjunction with the duties pertaining to the position. In order to facilitate communication and collaboration within the Graduate School, applicants who are not proficient in German will be encouraged to attend German language courses.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience:

  • Above-average master’s degree in political science
  • Profound knowledge of sustainability governance, especially climate governance
  • Expertise in European and international politics, including relevant theoretical ap-proaches and methods
  • Excellent English skills
