The Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics: Dynamics of Tradition and Innovation” at the University of Münster has been investigating the complex relationship between religion and politics across epochs and cultures since 2007. The funding phase from 2019 to 2025 will see the 140 researchers from ten countries and from 20 disciplines in the humanities and social sciences undertaking transepochal studies from antiquity to the present day to analyze what makes religion a driving force behind political and social change. One of the Cluster’s tasks is to conduct joint research with visiting scholars, and especially with distinguished and outstanding scholars from Germany and abroad.

In view of the crisis in Ukraine, the Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics” at the University of Münster is now awarding with immediate effect

five fellowships for academics fleeing Ukraine, Belarus or Russia

Funding is offered for up to six months. Financial support amounting to 2.100 euros per month will be provided to help such academics fulfil their research tasks and cover their living expenses. The Cluster of Excellence will organize accommodation and use its own funds to cover costs incurred for travel to Münster. In addition, fellows will be provided with a workplace in the Cluster of Excellence, as well as access to its infrastructure.
