Psalms are poetical texts, which bring before God the questions of mankind and the relationship of God and man in a meditative, complaining or enthusiastically praising fashion. Their compilation in the biblical Book of Psalms has remained until today of the greatest significance for private spirituality and communal worship as well as for theological scholarship. This introduction offers an overall orientation over current questions of scholarship on the Book of Psalms. Methodological and theological paragraphs are linked with the interpretation of exemplary psalms. This textbook sees itself as a companion for students of divinity as well as an introduction for independent study.
