Research Project

In the field of psychiatric research, the analysis of neuronal development and function plays an important role. Neuronal proteins are usually modified by molecular processes such as palmitoylation, which are essential for their correct function. The palmitoyl-acyltransferase ZDHHC7 reversibly binds palmitic acids to target proteins and mediates functions that are relevant for neuronal development, synaptic function and plasticity in the brain. Furthermore, ZDHHC7 has been indirectly associated with mental diseases, which often occur as a result of stress, via its targets.

In my research project, I investigate the role of ZDHHC7 in the sex-specific stress response of mice.
