Abstract
Exercise effects on brain and behavior

In recent years, the influence of lifestyle factors, e.g. physical fitness and physical activity, not only on physiological but also on cognitive performance has been frequently shown. The approaches in these studies, however, vary and the underlying mechanisms are still not clear. One line of research investigates the simultaneously performance of a motor and cognitive task (dual-task paradigms). Others investigate the association between cognitive performance and the overall fitness level of a person or the effects of a (long-term) fitness/motor-cognitive intervention on cognitive functioning. A third line of research analyses the immediate effects of acute bouts of exercise on cognitive functioning. In my talk I will present the different lines of research, some research findings and training approaches as well as potential underlying mechanisms.
