  • Welcome to the course Business and Intercultural Communication

On this page you find all information necessary for the course in the winter term 2019/2020. Please carefully read all the instructions and information listed below.

    General Information

    The lecture is held every Thursday (beginning October 10, 2019 until January 30, 2020) from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. in room J 2.

Guest lectures instead of regular sessions:
    • 07/11/2019: Noventum
    • 14/11/2019: Armacell

We strongly recommend to attend these guest lectures since the speakers will also elaborate on subjects that are highly relevant for a variety of the seminar papers.

    No Lectures:
    • 31/10/2019
    • 19/12/2019 (exam week)
    • 26/12/2019 (Christmas holidays)
    • 02/01/2020 (Christmas holidays)

There is no limitation to the number of students for this course and you do not need to register for this course with the institute!

However, please be aware that you need to register for the examination at the examination office (PAM) during the early registration period if you are a student of Business Administration (see below for further information for other studies).

The registration during the early registration period is mandatory in order to be allowed to write the seminar paper. The subsequent registration for the topic of the written report is accessible later this semester and will be announced.

  • Questions regarding the report will only be answered if asked in the discussion forum here in Learnweb!

    Registration

The registration for your report's topic is handled online and will be available at the dates indicated below. Please note that the registration for the report's topic does not substitute the registration at the examination office during the early registration period! If you are not able to register at the examination office of the School of Business and Economics (Prüfungsamt Wirtschaftswissenschaften) because you take this course as part of the "Allgemeine Studien" or for another reason that is not related to missing the registration deadline, please indicate to us using this form.

    General Information

Important: Please note that the registration for the report's topic does not substitute the registration at the examination office during the early registration period!

Please indicate to us using our online form (klick on link here) if you need your report to be graded instead of pass/fail or if you need an additional certificate. If you are not able to register at the examination office of the School of Business and Economics (Prüfungsamt Wirtschaftswissenschaften) because you take this course as part of  the "Allgemeine Studien" or for another reason that is not related to missing the registration deadline, please also use this form.

Note that there is only a limited number of students allowed per topic, so if one topic already has the maximum number of students working on it, you must choose another topic (first-come-first-serve). Once you have successfully registered for one topic, you are cleared for the respective topic and can start working on it right away. Please note that you may not receive a registration confirmation by e-mail, so please write down your topic!

    Submission

Please hand in or send one hardcopy. The report only has to be stapled (German translation: "getackert") in the upper left corner of the paper. So do not use a hard- or soft cover binding. Please do not hand in a digital copy or digital literature on CD. Reports handed in by e-mail will not be accepted.

Please hand in or send the report to the secretary’s office at the Institute of Accounting and Taxation (Room J 381) during the regular opening hours. If you send in the reports via mail, the date of the post stamp is decisive.

    Writing your report

The report should contain 4 pages of plain English text. The cover page, pictures and graphs are not taken into account when determining the page count. Please follow the guidelines from our institute's website (available in German and English)! Due to the very high number of students participating in the course, we cannot answer questions regarding the content requirements of the topics, citations or other formal criteria related to the report.

Why reports were graded "not passed" in the past

    • No or very sparse use of (academic) sources
    • No or very sparse allocation of sources to the statements made in the text (i.e. citations)
    • Very incorrect formatting (e.g. large spacing to easily meet page requirements)
    • Poor quality of content
