This practically oriented course teaches knowledge in the field of map design using ArcMap. Students will design one topographic and one thematic map.

- Cartographic Basics:

- Loading maps and dataset

- Selecting map layers and views

- Selecting and changing coordinates

- Organizing figure and setting colors

Map Making and Production

- Choosing qualitative or quantitative symbols

- Selecting classification methods for symbols

- Practicing advanced symbology technologies

- Improving map labels

- Creating and editing annotation

Topographic map:

- Creating map layout

- Adding essential map elements

- Publishing map

Thematic map:

- Discussing with partner and deciding topic and data source

- Drafting major points in editorial plan
