Julia Metag appointed as full member of the BfR Commission for Risk Research and Risk Perception
(19.01.2026) Prof. Dr Julia Metag has been elected as a full member of the Commission for Risk Research and Risk Perception of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). The appointment is valid for the period from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2029.
The commission's tasks include advising the BfR on scientific issues relating to risk research, in particular on the recording and assessment of subjective risk perception and on methodological and communicative challenges in communicating risks. In view of complex social debates, such as those on health and environmental issues, this task is becoming increasingly important.
With her expertise in the analysis of public communication processes, the perception of scientific information and the impact of media content, Julia Metag can contribute to the interdisciplinary work of the commission. She can bring key aspects of her research – such as the reception and comprehensibility of risk and scientific information in different population groups – to bear in her advisory role to the BfR, thereby supporting the evidence-based development of communication strategies.
