German-Norwegian research exchange at IfK

(08.12.2023) Twenty academics from Stavanger, Oslo and Münster met for an intensive two-day exchange on the premises of the Professional School.

Participants at the event included the renowned Norwegian journalism researchers Helle Sjøvaag, Raul Ferrer-Conill, Ragnhild Olsen and political scientist Ann-Karin Holmen. On the IfK side, the teams of Prof. Dr. Nina Springer and Prof. Dr. Thorsten Quandt were among the participants.

The program included project presentations and a doctoral workshop. Topics such as disinformation research, social media journalism and hidden power structures in the internet and media infrastructure were discussed. The substantive program was supplemented by networking sessions in which options for an expanded exchange of teaching and research were discussed. The meeting in an open atmosphere was a success in terms of both content and structure: Concrete agreements were made to intensify bi-national cooperation, for example through Erasmus cooperation between the participating institutions and further events.

The exchange with Norway has already existed for seven years and was initiated by professors Helle Sjovaag – then still at the University of Bergen – and Thorsten Quandt. One of the visible results of earlier meetings is an Erasmus cooperation between the IfK and the University of Bergen, which has already enabled many students to spend a semester abroad in Norway.
