Our visit to the WDR regional studios in Münster

(04.02.2026) In January, students from the Department of Comunication visited the WDR regional studio in Münster as part of a special tour. There, they gained insights into the editorial processes and production of local television and radio programmes.

After a brief introduction, the first stop on the programme was the television studio where Lokalzeit Münsterland is produced. The students were given an overview of the technical structures, the distribution of tasks within the team and the organisational processes involved in producing a programme. This was followed by a tour of the radio studio. Practical examples were used to explain how original sound bites are edited, reports are produced and background noise is technically reduced.

The tour concluded with a discussion with editor-in-chief Ingo Benitz, who provided background information on the work of the WDR regional studio in Münster and the current challenges facing local journalism. The students' questions accompanied the tour throughout and enabled an in-depth exchange.

The IfK would like to thank WDR for the informative tour and the opportunity to gain insights into journalistic practice.
