The chair's research focuses on the following areas:

- International Law, especially International Refugee Law, Human Rights Law and International Criminal Law
- German and European Migration Law
- Critical Legal Studies, especially Legal Gender Studies
Library
The chair's library can be found in the catalogue of the ULB and RWS under "HB Markard". The books can be viewed on site at Wilmergasse 28 during regular office hours (coping and scanning is possible). Books may be loaned to members of other chairs.
