Below you will find current information on the doctoral guidelines of the Chair and the Faculty.
General Information
Before inquiring about doctoral studies at the Chair, please consult the doctoral regulations for the general requirements for doctoral studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Münster.
Chair Guidelines
1. Professor Mäsch generally only supervises doctoral projects if the applicant has passed the First State Examination in Law with at least a grade of "fully satisfactory." Other applicants may be supervised on a case-by-case basis if there has been prior personal contact (e.g., during lectures or seminars) and the applicant has demonstrated exceptional academic aptitude.
2. Applicants who meet the requirements of point 1 are not entitled to supervision. The Chair reserves the right to decline supervision, for example, if its supervisory capacity is already exhausted by doctoral candidates who have been accepted.
3. The dissertation topic will be assigned in consultation between Prof. Mäsch and the prospective candidate. The prospective candidate is expected to develop their own ideas for a potential dissertation topic in the form of a proposal. This topic should fall within the research focus areas of the chair. Details will be clarified in a personal meeting.
4. Supervision requests can be submitted in writing or by email to iwr1@uni-muenster.de. Please include copies of certificates and transcripts (either as simple copies or scans), an outline of any preferred topic, and information about the prospective candidate's current occupation/position.
