Changeover of all Cisco AnyConnect VPN accesses to 2-factor authentication as of 10.01.2023

You have almost certainly heard about the increasing cyber attacks on universities in recent months. Last summer, among others, the FH in Münster was affected. In order to protect the WWU as best as possible against similar attacks and the associated protracted disadvantages for teaching and research, the WWU is introducing additional security-related measures.

Starting Jan. 10, 2023, all Cisco AnyConnect VPN access will be secured via 2-factor authentication. In concrete terms, this means that from then on it will no longer be possible to access internal university services and data from outside the university via Cisco AnyConnect VPN access using only one's own network access password.

From 10.01.2023, an additional factor will be required for VPN use in addition to the network access password. WWU uses a one-time password (OTP) via an OTP app as the 2nd factor.

The WWU recommends different OTP apps depending on the operating system. The recommendations, as well as the installation and application instructions for 2-factor authentication for further VPN use, can be found at OTP.
