The Hot Science Communication Lab rests on three central pillars – the Knowledge Hub, the Innovation Hub and the Transfer Hub – with which we aim to advance research, methodological development and social impact in the field of multimodal science communication.

Knowledge Hub
We aim to gain insights into multimodal science communication through three key studies – a systematic review, a large-scale automated content analysis, and a population survey with experimental elements. The hub promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, expands methodological expertise in automated, physiological and neuroscientific approaches, and positions the lab as a leading authority in research on multimodal communication on controversial scientific topics – with the aim of strengthening democratic discourse and social resilience.
Innovation Hub
We develop and refine automated methods for analysing complex multimodal data and create frameworks for applying neuroscientific methods to research cognitive and emotional responses to multimodal science communication. In doing so, we set new methodological standards and combine insights into cognition, behaviour and communication.
Transfer Hub
We transfer research findings into practice, strengthen the visibility of the lab beyond the scientific community, build close partnerships with existing science communication units, and promote trust-based communication strategies to increase societal resilience to disinformation and other threats to democratic discourse.
