	SOCIÉTÉ INTERNATIONALE RENARDIENNE ÉPOPÉE ANIMALE, FABLE ET FABLIAU INTERNATIONAL REYNARD SOCIETY BEAST EPIC, FABLE & FABLIAU 16ème Colloque international, Münster, 1-5 août 2005 16th International Colloquium, Münster, 1-5 August 2005

The Sixteenth Colloquium of the International Reynard Society (Beast Epic, Fable and Fabliau) Société Internationale Renardienne (SIR) will be held at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster, from Monday 1st of August to Friday 5th of August 2005. The papers presented at this Colloquium will address the SIR’s traditional fields of study: the Roman de Renart and medieval beast epic; the fable tradition; the Bestiary and animal iconography; the Old French fabliaux and analogous comic texts; and satirical, allegorical and moralising literature, furthermore, the extra-european tradition of the beast-epic or fable. Additionally, there will be a special thematic strand at this year’s conference: “Consortai vulpis - Cultivating the Untruth”. Participants are invited to look at ‘the lie’ with regard to our texts and characters and their illustrations, too. The questions arising out of this particular theme would seem to be appropriate to any scholarly discipline, and will – we trust – elicit fruitful answers. We would be delighted if this idea were to encourage several papers from all our disciplines. Selected articles based on papers read at the Colloquium will be published in the Society’s Yearbook, Reinardus. ‘Linguae francae’ are: French, English, German, Italian.
