I’m a social scientist working at the intersection of human geography, economic sociology, and political economy. Having completed my doctoral dissertation at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies (MPIfG) in Cologne and at the University of Duisburg-Essen, I am currently working as a postdoctoral researcher within the Working Group on Economic Geography and Globalisation Studies at the Institute of Geography at the University of Münster.

I studied in Passau, Cologne, Beijing, and Buenos Aires. For my doctoral research, I completed fieldwork in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Bogotá (Colombia), along with a visiting fellowship at the Universidad Diego Portales, Santiago de Chile. Prior to my doctoral studies, I gained professional experience at the German Consulate General in Chengdu, China, the German-Chinese Business Association in Cologne, and several other German-Chinese bilateral institutions.

I’m passionate about exploring and understanding contemporary dynamics of dependency and development in Latin America amidst a rising “global China”; global development discourses; and migration studies.

For my doctoral dissertation (2020-2025), I investigated Chinese infrastructural projects in Colombia and Latin America more broadly, to understand the developmental impact of “East-South” investment dynamics in the 21st century. Building on this project, I am currently expanding my research towards China’s broader global impact on developmental trajectories across the global South, especially in the areas of “new” industries and green development. Additional research foci include Chinese migration to Latin America, specifically Argentina, and anti-racist movements enhanced by Chinese migrant communities.

Methodologically, my research is driven by qualitative approaches, including ethnography (both online and in person) and multilingual interviews with a wide range of research participants, from workers and civil society activists to governmental authorities and across Latin America, China, and the United States.
