WP 4:
At the start of the sub-project, interviews will be conducted with practising criminal judges to identify specific needs and preferences, as well as concerns and reservations regarding the use of AI. Building on these findings, experimental studies will be carried out based on psychological models and theories to examine key aspects of AI acceptance (e.g. the capabilities and objectives of AI) in the field of criminal procedure law, taking into account the perspectives of various stakeholders (judges, defendants and their lawyers, and uninvolved observers from the general public). In addition, the study will investigate the influence of contextual factors, such as time pressure and judges’ workloads, on the use of AI recommendations in criminal proceedings. The focus of these studies is the most appropriate calibration of trust in AI.
