DC: Explainable AI

The dynamic cluster (DC) “Explainable AI” examines the explainability of AI-systems from various perspectives. The aim is to analyse Explainable AI (XAI) in its technical, practical, and normative dimensions and to clarify its significance for different areas of law.

The cluster functions as a dynamic forum that addresses current developments and provides impetus for legal research on explainable artificial intelligence. The focus is on joint readings of relevant articles from computer science, law, and related disciplines, workshop discussions with internal and external experts, and intradisciplinary discussions within the field of law.

This creates an open space for the development of common concepts, problem understandings, and research questions. Among other things, the cluster examines requirements for transparency and justification obligations, questions of evidence in artificial decisions, and the dogmatic classification of explainable AI systems.
