Program for the Promotion of the Internationalization of Early Career Researchers at Faculty 06

(Resolution of the Faculty Council on January 11, 2023)

Objective of the Funding

The internationalization of early-career researchers can be most effectively supported by promoting active participation in international academic events. Therefore, the faculty has established a funding program that provides financial support for travel expenses related to active participation in international academic events abroad.

Eligibility Criteria

The funding is available to employees, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers at an institute of Faculty 06 who meet the following requirements:

  • They have successfully applied for active participation in an academic event abroad. This may include presenting a paper, delivering an invited lecture, actively participating in a methods school, or taking on a role as chair or discussant.
  • You can provide evidence that you have unsuccessfully applied for external or central university funding to cover the costs of participation in the respective event.
  • Even if external or central university funding has been successfully obtained, applicants may still apply for co-financing. In this case, proof of funding covering at least 30% of the requested grant amount must be provided.
  • If no suitable external or central university funding programs were available at the time of application, co-financing may still be requested. In this case, applicants must provide proof of alternative funding (e.g., at the institute level) covering at least 30% of the requested grant amount.

Funding Amount

The maximum funding per application is €1,000. If an application is submitted by multiple employees or doctoral candidates from Faculty 06, the funding must be shared among them. The funding can be granted as full or partial financial support. A total of €10,000 is available annually for this funding program.

Application and Selection Process

The application for funding must include the following documents:

  • A cover letter outlining the importance of participating in the international academic event for one’s academic career
  • A copy of the application documents for the event (including acceptance letter, if available)
  • A copy of the funding application (including approval or rejection) or proof of financial support from other sources (for co-financing applications)
  • The applicant’s CV
  • A letter of support from a faculty member (professor, junior professor, or private lecturer) of Faculty 06
  • A cost estimate

Applications must be submitted electronically (preferably as a single PDF file) to the Faculty 06 Dean’s Office (dek.fb06@uni-muenster.de) by March 31, June 30, September 30, or December 31 of each year. Applications for funding may also be submitted retroactively for participation in conferences held in the quarter preceding the respective application deadline.

The selection decision will be made in the following meeting of the KFWN. The selection criteria include:

  • The reputation of the academic event
  • The expected quality of the contribution
  • The applicant’s academic career progression

Active participation in university, faculty, or institute committees is encouraged and may be considered as an additional criterion in the evaluation and approval process.

If the acceptance for the academic event and/or the approval or rejection from the funding organization is not yet available, an approval for funding under reserve may be granted.
