Welcome to the Department of Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology!

We are pleased to welcome you to the Department of Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology. Our research and teaching focus on plural religious formations, with interreligious dynamics in past and present that arise from diverse encounters, and intrareligious debates outside of Europe. In the Religious Studies, we examine the texts, rituals, artefacts, practices, narratives, and discourses of religious communities from a cultural studies and philosophical perspective. In Intercultural Theology, we explore the history of theology and Christianity in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Oceania and their interrelationships in the global ecumenical movement and in interreligious dialogue. In Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology, we are engaged in debates on academic approaches to concepts of “religion(s)”, and the theoretical and methodological questions at stake.
