Wie Paulus als Seelsorger im 1. Thessalonicherbrief „Nähe“ schafft

Abstract

Die christliche Seelsorge lasst sich nach biblischem Verstandnis inhaltlich als Trost, griech. παράκλησις, lat. consolatio bestimmen. Im Kontext der griechisch-romischen antiken Konsolationsliteratur finden sich verschiedene philosophische Deutungen und Herangehensweisen an die consolatio, welche haufig Trost als „Trauerlosigkeit schaffen“ interpretieren. Indessen zeichnet sich das Konzept von Trost bei Paulus dadurch aus, dass er es in den Kontext der parousia Christi stellt. In seinem Brief an die Thessalonicher (1 Thess) spendet er seiner Adressatenschaft Trost, indem er ihnen mit der Wiederkunft Christi die Uberwindung der Trennung der Lebenden von den Toten zusichert. Gleichzeitig zeigt Paulus mittels seiner epistolaren parousia in Thessaloniki seine personliche Prasenz und schafft consolatio durch apostolische Nahe. So erfahrt die Gemeinde in Thessaloniki die von Gott gestaltete apostolische parousia und begreift die ἐκκλησία als einen Ort von Trost, Hoffnung, Liebe und Freude. Im 1. Thessalonicherbrief entwickelt Paulus „parousia-Seelsorge“.

According to the Biblical understanding, pastoral care can be defined as consolation, gr. παράκλησις, lat. consolatio. In the context of the Graeco-Roman ancient consolatory literature, various philosophical approaches to consolatio can be found, which mostly aim at creating the absence of grief. However, Paul's concept of consolation is characterised by the fact that he places it in the context of Christ's parousia. In his letter to the Thessalonians (1 Thess), he gives comfort to his addressees by assuring them that the separation of the living from the dead will be overcome with the return of Christ. At the same time, by means of his epistolary parousia in Thessalonica, Paul shows his personal presence and creates consolatio through apostolic closeness. Thus, the church in Thessalonica experiences the Godordained apostolic parousia and understands the ἐκκλησία as a place of comfort, hope, love and joy. In 1 Thess Paul develops "parousia pastoral care".
