Within the field of ‘Polymers and nanostructures the Schönhoff Group deals predominantly with organic systems that are organized on the nano- and microscale, for example by self-assembly. The main concern is the investigation of dynamics and transport of small molecules or ions. Dynamic nuclear magnetic resonance techniques such as pulsed field gradient diffusion (PFG-NMR) or spin relaxation are employed as well as thin film characterization techniques such as ellipsometry, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM-D) or ATR-IR to investigate ultrathin organic films, complex fluids, and colloidal particles.

Research of the group is divided into three fields of activity:

·        Liquid and Polymer Electrolytes

·         Polyelectrolyte Self-Assembly

·         Porous Materials and Colloidal Carriers
