We have been studying the biochemical and genetic basis of catabolic pathways for the mineralization of N-heteroaromatic compounds.
Enzyme biochemistry and –biotechnology
We are interested in enzymes catalyzing the modification or cleavage of biologically active heteroaromatic compounds, such as alkylquinolone-type signal molecules and antibiotics.
Major goals are to understand the physiological roles and catalytic mechanisms of these enzymes, and to modify and improve their activities for potential applications.
Biochemistry of alkylquinolone metabolism
We aim at characterizing enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of alkylquinolone-type secondary metabolites in order to understand the pathway and to develop tools for its modification or inhibition.
