I obtained my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in biology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Happe in the Photobiotechnology group. During my studies, I worked on hydrogenases in green algae, specific enzymes that are capable of accepting electrons from the photosynthetic electron transport chain and using them to generate molecular hydrogen. This work fueled my interest in protein biochemistry and photosynthesis research, so it was the perfect opportunity for me to start my PhD in the group Plant Physiology of Prof. Iris Finkemeier afterwards. Since then, I have been investigating the impact of posttranslational modifications on proteins, particularly those involved in photosynthetic reactions or the regulation of photosynthesis. My work comprises techniques in molecular biology (e.g., mutagenesis of Arabidopsis plants by CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing), plant physiology (e.g., analysis of photosynthesis-related parameters using PAM fluorometry), protein biochemistry, and proteomics.
