Guided tour through the exhibition "The Fascination of Lacquer. Artwork from Asia and Europe"

Objects from the collection of the former Museum für Lackkunst are on display at the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur until 27 July 2025. On Wednesday, 25 June 2025, there was a guided tour for free through the exhibition "The Fascination of Lacquer. Artwork from Asia and Europe" for students and interested parties, organised by the curator of the exhibition Dr. Patricia Frick.

As part of the "Students for Students - Students report on their experiences in internships and studying abroad" series, in summer semester 2025 a student from the Institute of Sinology and East Asian Studies reported on his experiences at China University of Political Science and Law 中国政法大学 in Peking, PRC.

Students for Students - Students report on their experiences in internships and studying abroad

As part of the "Students for Students" series, two students from the Institute of Sinology and East Asian Studies will report on their experiences in the winter semester 2024/25 at Fudan University 復旦大學 in Shanghai as well as at an internship in Chengdu and about the participation in an intensive language course at the Mandarin Training Center 國語教學中心 of the NTNU 國立臺灣師範大學 in Taibei.

Workshop on Chinese and Arabic Calligraphy

On Friday, 8 November, from 3 to 7 PM, the Asian Studies Centre hosted a workshop on Chinese and Arabic calligraphy, led by Dr Yu Hong and Iyad Shraim M.A.
After a theoretical introduction by both instructors, the participants were given an insight into the respective styles of calligraphy. In the practical part of the workshop, they were then able to create their first own calligraphic artworks in one of the two styles.

General meeting Asian Studies Centre

The first Asian Studies Centre's general meeting took place on Monday, 28 October 2024, from 6 to 8 pm at room RS 23, Institute of Sinology and East Asian Studies, Schlaunstr. 2 in 48143 Münster. The minutes were sent to the members.

Successful event: Scientific Cooperation with China

On 10 July 2024, the event "Scientific Cooperation with China" took place in front of around 30 participants. After the welcome address by Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Michael Quante and organiser Jun.-Prof. Dr. Anne Schmiedl, there were two presentations followed by a Q&A session and discussion.

Opening of the Asian Studies Centre

On 13 May 2024, the official opening of the Asian Studies Centre took place at Heereman'scher Hof (University of Münster Professional School). In addition to the objectives and tasks of the Asian Studies Centre, the certificates and the new logo were presented. Prof. Dr. Carmen Brandt, Chairwoman of the German Association for Asian Studies (DGA) and Professor of Contemporary South Asian Studies at the University of Bonn, gave the keynote speech. The event concluded with the annual Study India Day with guest of honour Mubarak Bawa Syed, Consul General of India from Frankfurt.

The logo of the Asian Studies Centre has been found!

From December 2023 to April 2024, the Asian Studies Centre launched a logo competition. There were many creative and beautiful ideas. The three winners will be honored at the opening of the Asian Studies Centre on 13 May 2024.
The designs of the participants who agreed to publication can be found in an image gallery.
The Asian Studies Centre would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition!
