Exchange program with the Institute of European Studies Berkeley, University of California


Research stay for two to three months


The smartNETWORK continues its exchange program with the Institute of European Studies Berkeley (IES https://ies.berkeley.edu/ ): For 2023 a place is advertised. The stay is to be freely arranged and comprises two to three months. All doctoral students from the smartNETWORK's graduate institutions are eligible to apply.


Financial support


The funding includes a travel allowance of 1,500 euros, as well as a monthly allowance of 700 euros (settlement will be made on a daily basis). Doctoral candidates with one or more children abroad receive a supplement of 200,00 EUR per month in addition to the regular funding. Doctoral candidates with a GdB of 30 or more receive a supplement of 200,00 EUR per month in addition to the regular funding.


Application procedure


The written application in English should contain three pages explaining how the stay in Berkeley will benefit the doctoral studies. This should include a rough work plan for the stay as well as an explanation of who or which local institution the collaboration is aimed at. In a second application step, the award committee invites the applicant to an interview. Application and interview decide on the nomination, which has to be confirmed by the IES.

Scholarship to study in the USA - Fulbright Study Scholarship

Those interested in pursuing a four- to nine-month master's degree at a U.S. university in the 2023-2024 academic year can apply now for a Fulbright Study Scholarship. The application deadline is August 21, 2022.


WHO

German students and alumni:ae of all subjects who would like to study one or two semesters at the graduate school of a U.S. university. Selection criteria are, in addition to good academic performance, social commitment and the potential to engage in transatlantic relations.

Applicants* must have a Bachelor's degree or at least 6 successfully completed semesters of study in programs leading to a Diplom, Magister, Erstes Staatsexamen degree by the time the fellowship begins (August/September 2023).


WHAT

The fellowship provides up to $34,500 in financial support for the nine months of study ($15,300 for four months) at a graduate school in the U.S., plus advising and mentoring from Fulbright Germany and its U.S. partners and inclusion in the global Fulbright network.


HOW TO APPLY

Scholarship applications are submitted online using the application form in the Fulbright Foreign Student Program.


WHEN

Application deadline is August 21, 2022.
