In the history of procedural law, there are two major epochs: the one without monopoly on violence and since 1495 the one with monopoly on violence. The textbook shows where and in which historical contexts the direction was set. It describes the possibilities of how courts and procedures were and are still organized until today. At the same time it focuses on the connection between the monopoly on violence on the one hand and the professionalization of jurists on the other. Temporally, the book ranges from the Migration Period up to the presence. With regards to content, it takes into account the oldest domestic and canon traditions as well. Various sources and examples show the practical functionality of law – the reason for the book’s vivid depictions.
