ANNOUNCEMENT! Prof. Sarah Albiez-Wieck from the History Department will be offering an intensive master-seminar in block form on "Gender and Empire. The Philippines under Spanish, US and Japanese rule," together with Dr. Olivia Anne M. Habana from Ateneo de Manila University.
After an (important!) initial meeting via Zoom on September 8th (9-11 a.m.), there will be one week of in-presence-sessions from October 6th-10th, each day from 10-12 a.m. and 2-6 p.m. (on Friday only until 3.p.m.). The seminar analyzes central strategies of colonial rule in the Philippines under Spanish (1565-1898), US (1898-1946) and Japanese occupation (1942-1945). A special focus in the seminar will be on gender relations.
WINTER TERM 2025-2026
All course formats that have a direct relationship to North America, Canada, the Carribbean and/or Mexico are permitted. Please ask the responsible instructor in advance, whether participation is possible or not.
In module 1 "North American Studies Across the Disciplines", three seminars are mandatory, covering at least two different disciplines/faculties (from 6, 8, or 9). One of the three seminars needs to be completed with a research paper (3,500–5,000 words).
Module 2 "Study North America: Theory and Practice" allows students to both deepen their knowledge in regular courses as well as to choose between other formats of research and practice. Please read in the module description for further information.
