Module Objectives / Integration into the Curriculum
Students are expected to engage intensively and in depth with scientific concepts and theories in the field of sport psychology and their application.
The module provides a foundation for the application- and research-oriented modules M6–M8 and is complemented by the methodological training provided in Module 4.
Course Content
Concepts and current research findings in the field of sport psychology are discussed and critically reflected upon. Topics include, among others, social processes in sport, expertise, and the promotion of health-related behavior.
In this seminar, students engage with applications and interventions from both a theoretical and practical perspective.
Students develop and practice relevant practical skills, including communication and counseling skills as well as the planning, development, and evaluation of intervention programs.
Examples include psychological training in competitive sport and sport psychological interventions in health and exercise settings.
Students also gain direct experience in applied settings through contact with practitioners and target groups, including athletes, coaches, health-oriented groups, sports clubs and associations, and health insurance providers.
Learning Outcomes
Students are familiar with the current state of research in the respective areas of sport psychology. Through their connection to current research practice, they are able to assess new research findings in terms of their relevance and to identify research gaps.
They are able to critically reflect on the research designs and methods used, particularly with regard to their innovative potential and limitations.
Students acquire relevant fundamental practical skills, particularly in:
-
conducting client consultations,
-
planning and implementing individual, group, and institutional interventions, and
-
evaluating these interventions.
Finally, students are able to transfer their theoretical and practical knowledge directly into counseling and applied practice settings.
