Important note for incoming Erasmus students: Please note that this is a Master’s-level seminar and is therefore only open to MA students.

This seminar explores Generative AI (genAI) as a transformative epistemic technology: a system that actively shapes how knowledge is produced, validated, and accessed. As genAI becomes one of the primary interfaces for information, it fundamentally reshapes our knowledge ecosystems, influencing whose knowledge is surfaced and how established knowledge actors, such as from journalism, online encyclopedias, or science, evolve in response. Drawing on epistemology, infrastructure theory, and socio-technical approaches, the course examines the co-constitutive relationship between technology and social practices. We will investigate the reshaping of knowledge systems from the perspectives of media appropriation, production, AI development, and regulation, with the goal of understanding how to steer this transformation toward fair, sustainable, and pluralistic knowledge futures.
