This class ("Colloquium") is designed to allow M.A. BAPS students attending the lecture "Text, Book and Culture: An Introduction to Book Studies" a more in-depth discussion of various approaches and case studies in the history of the book and of book studies in general. We will read and discuss texts and sources accompanying the lecture and thereby foster knowledge about and understanding of book studies as a discipline. This colloquium also introduces students to important databases and bibliographies for book studies. Alongside these activities, there will be study trips to the university library’s rare books department and to the Bible Museum for hands-on printing.

Students are expected to actively participate (for details, see the English Department’s resolution on class attendance: https://www.uni-muenster.de/Anglistik/Study/ClassAttendance.html). Research, reading and short writing tasks will be given as a guidance how to spend the self-study time factored into the module. Students have the option of preparing a brief oral report for this class (or in linguistics or literary studies). Topic suggestions will be made by the instructor.
