Self-Study & Portfolio Course Instructions

For the Self-Study & Portfolio course, there is no registration required for the course itself.
However, students must be registered for the exam in Qispos to receive credit points.

Course Requirements:

1. Students should access the “Self-Study and Portfolio” folder in Learnweb and work independently using the materials provided. Each student must complete Diagnostic Test #1 and submit the results using the Excel evaluation sheet, located in the "STEP 1: Self-Assessment" subfolder in Learnweb.

2. Students must obtain a copy of:
Hewings, Martin (2023): Advanced Grammar in Use. A Self-study Reference and Practice Book for Advanced Learners of English – with Answers. 4th Edition.
Older or digital versions are also acceptable, provided they include an answer key.
Additional exercises are available under "STEP 3: Self-Study Suggestions" in Learnweb.

3. The portfolio must be used as a logbook to record all exercises and activities undertaken to improve English speaking skills.

Submission Instructions:

By 2 March 2026, students must submit the following documents in printed form to Dr. Anna Rapp’s Postbox, located on the ground floor of the English Seminar:

- (1) Diagnostic Test Results (Evaluation sheet from Excel Test #1)
- (2) Reflection Tasks (Pages 17–27 of the portfolio, handwritten)
- (3) Signed Eigenständigkeitserklärung (Declaration of independent work)

All documents must be stapled together with the student’s name clearly marked on the front page.

Important Notes:

- Do not submit the entire portfolio—only the three required components listed above.
- Late or incomplete submissions, or those showing significant issues in language, style, or content, will receive a fail grade (5,0).
- The Learnweb folder is clearly organized. Make sure to invest the necessary time and effort to complete the tasks properly.
- If you have any questions about this study element, make sure you have read all relevant material before you come see me during my office hours. I will not answer any questions via email.
