The course “Aspects of Modern Ultrashort Pulse Optics” combines both fundamental and application-oriented content on ultrashort pulse optics. There are no mandatory prerequisites for understanding the course content, provided that a bachelor’s degree in physics or a comparable degree in the natural sciences or engineering has been successfully completed. However, since not all fundamentals can or should be reviewed and explained in detail, prior knowledge of the physics of ultrashort light pulses or a willingness to engage in intensive self-study is recommended.
The course will address the scientific and technical details and their implementation in experiments or as technical devices using selected examples, such as the characterization, generation, amplification, frequency conversion, and application of ultrashort light pulses. Through the direct and regular combination of tutorials with topic-related insights into the research laboratories of the Optical Technologies research group, the aim is to facilitate the integration of theoretical fundamentals with practical application aspects.
