The lecture course is designed to introduce students to a variety of current themes and theories in the study of American literature, ranging from critical scholarship on and primary texts that attend to the Web 2.0, book banning, affect, archives, and autotheory. The individual sessions blend introductions to theories with critical readings of select case studies (primary texts), with particular focus on texts that speak to current trends in American literature and that help better understand the complexities of the contemporary moment in literary reading, literary criticism, and book culture.
