This PG class is a methodology course on literary theory and criticism. It will be shaped by essential readings in literary studies that have emerged in the past two decades, including work at the intersection of aesthetics and politics, literary reading, on the contemporary, literary critique, and other new-materialist, affect-oriented, and object-oriented critical traditions. Students will be given the opportunity to present their preliminary ideas of thesis topics. As in previous semesters, the course contains a “Demystifying MA theses” component, complete with analyses of academic writing strategies in the assigned readings and a sample MA thesis that students will be able to access.
