This seminar centers around aspects of the English lexicon relevant for future primary school teachers of the English language. This includes questions such as: How is knowledge about words and their usage acquired/learned and stored in the (multilingual) mental lexicon? How do speakers process lexical input/output in concrete situations of language use? How do these factors relate to teaching, i.e. how can we successfully support young learners when familiarizing them with words and longer phrases?

In addition, the seminar offers an introduction to several important academic skills regarding English linguistics for future primary school teachers. We will inter alia address different research methods connected to the study of the lexicon, discuss how students can develop their own research projects in this field, and go into the specifics of writing academic papers in English linguistics.
