Computational methods are employed to extract knowledge from digital behavioural traces, develop and apply AI systems, and analyse knowledge dissemination. The data extraction course covers three automated data collection methods: working with databases; using application programming interfaces; and web scraping. Following an introduction to the necessary programming languages (mostly Python), as well as basic concepts and data criticism, participants collect their own datasets and prepare it for analyses. As part of their coursework, participants present their datasets and extraction approaches. These datasets are then used to complete the examination task consisting of a data analysis report that combines the outcomes of this course and the data analysis seminar in the module. Both courses must be taken together.
