Numerical solution techniques for nonlinear partial differential equation form the central topic of this lecture. We will focus on equations which describe geodynamical phenomena, among them the cooling of magmatic intrusions, the thermal evolution of planets, groundwaterflow etc. Discretisation methods like Finite Differences, Finite Elements and Finite Volumes will be introduced. The efficient solution of the arising linear system of equations by simultaneous and iterative solvers will be discussed.
