The course focuses on computer mediated communication (CMC) and the analysis of CMC using corpus linguistic tools. The students will be able to learn about various types of CMC, e.g. text messages, blogs, online comments, discussion forums, general websites. They will learn how to analyse CMC using corpus linguistic tools and methods through practical sessions. Corpus linguistic tools AntConc and LancsBox will be mainly used in the practical sessions. The corpus linguistic methods of analysis like frequency lists, concordance lines, collocations will be introduced, along with pattern matching techniques like regular expressions.
