This lecture explores the language acquisition of English as a second, third or further language. First, I will present theoretical models of both the acquisition process and the processes of cross-linguistic influence. Subsequently, we will discuss empirical findings on the acquisition of fluency, phonology, morphosyntax, lexis and pragmatics. Finally, we will review studies on various factors that influence the language acquisition process.
