In this seminar, the students will read Ursula K. Le Guin's seminal novel The Dispossessed (1974) and be introduced to the concepts of utopia, dystopia, and imagining alternative futures. Subtitled "An Ambiguous Utopia", The Dispossessed is a groundbreaking work that raises important questions on how to narrate societies whose forms of organizations differ radically from the writer's and the reader's own. The novel will be supplemented with relevant and introductory secondary readings, which will be available on Learnweb before the course begins.
