This seminar covers the theory behind and practice of using desirable difficulties to enhance students’ learning in authentic school classrooms. First, the concept of desirable difficulties (i.e., challenges that, when successfully overcome, enhance long-term learning and are therefore beneficial) is introduced. Then, three of such difficulties (viz., retrieval practice, distributed practice, and interleaved practice) are discussed in greater detail, first covering their theoretical underpinnings and then covering research examples showing how these practice strategies affect students’ learning and performance in authentic school classrooms. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired in the seminar practically.
Please note that this seminar will be presented in English.
