This class will focus on tasks in the secondary school English classroom. Starting with a theoretical foundation of the idea of task-based language teaching, we'll gradually move the focus to the German context and explore "komplexe Kompetenzaufgaben" (secondary school) as well as "gute Lernaufgabe" - only to find out that these are all very related concepts and to eventually conclude with a list of criteria for tasks in the English classroom. We'll continue with aspects of differentiation and individualisation through the use of tasks, to then on the one hand analyse existing materials with regards to their use and conceptualisation of tasks and on the other hand designing our own tasks.

Assessment (Studienleistung) will consist of a tasks planned by the students for a specific learning group, including an explanation that is firmly based in theory as well as all needed materials. It might also contain a reflection if the tasks could be tried out in practice.

A detailled syllabus with a detailled course plan, a list of literature and details on assessment as well as assessment criteria will be provided in the first session.
