In this seminar, we will read, analyse and discuss recent literature on how spatial mis- and disinformation can be generated, what impact it may have and how to detect/prevent it. We will look at different types of "geomedia", including satellite imagery, ground-level photographs and possibly textual descriptions. Generative AI will play an important role as it enables the creation of very convincing misinformation. Participants will read and present at least one academic publication in the subject area, and take part in discussions and group work. All participants should acquire a deeper understanding of the state-of-the-art in this topic area by the end of the semester, which they will demonstrate in a short summary of the key insights they gained during the seminar. The seminar is organized in a block-mode fashion, with an initial meeting to allocate papers and schedule the block sessions for the presentations and discussions.
