This seminar is dedicated to students who are planning to become primary school teachers of English. It will explore, in detail, the potential(s) of English children's literature for the young learners' English classroom. We'll start by taking a closer look at English children's book and with a detailed analysis of how to choose them wisely. Based on that, we'll go into details with how to integrate these books into the young learners' English classroom. Roughly speaking, this will be seperated into the two approaches of independent reading and storytelling. Both approaches will be explored so that students get a good idea of how to plan lessons and units based on picture books. This knowledge will be put into practice by designing a teaching unit that is based on a picture book for a primary school English classroom. This will be tried out in a primary school near Münster on Wednesday, Feb. 11, and will eventually be reflected on by the students. Throughout the seminar, we'll also build up a resource pool of useful picture books to be used in the primary school English classroom.
